A rare opportunity to grow as an artist, learning 3D character animation directly from one of the top animators working in the industry and visiting the Walt Disney Family Museum. The Masterclass gives students and professionals alike an in-depth look at the workflow of a Pixar Animator, including LIVE demonstrations, examples from the movies and the Demo Reel reviews. Michal Makarewicz joined Pixar Animation Studios in early 2003 after completing the prestigious animation internship program at the San Francisco Bay Area studio. Since then, Michal has worked as an animator on The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, Toy Story 3, and Brave. Michal was Supervising Animator on the Up DVD short film Dug’s Special Mission, Directing Animator on Cars 2, and Supervising Animator on Pixar’s first half-hour TV special Toy Story of Terror. Michal recently finished animation on Pixar’s 2015 feature film Inside Out, and is currently working as Directing Animator on the 2016 feature film, Finding Dory.

Michal is one of the few instructors who also works full-time at Pixar Animation Studios, ensuring his lessons are relevant to working in the industry today. The information taught in the Master Class is cutting-edge and reflects how Michal animates every day!

During his 13+ year career at Pixar Animation Studios, Michal has contributed to films that have won 5 Academy Awards, 4 Golden Globe Awards, 2 Annie Awards, and dozens of other accolades.

In 2008, Michal was awarded an Annie for “Outstanding Character Animation in a Feature Production” by the International Animated Film Society for his work on Ratatouille. In addition to his work at Pixar, Michal has been teaching animation since 2005. He has contributed lectures as well as taught classes at Animation Mentor, and has instructed classes at California College of the Arts and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Michal currently teaches exclusively at The Animation Collaborative in Emeryville, California, where he is owner and co-founder, in addition to traveling domestically and internationally with The Animation Demo & Lecture Master Class.
